Firbet Makes

Creator of the Furhire Project and who runs everything behind the scenes.

Firbet started planning the furhire in 2023 after having difficulty finding any furry artbooks or zines. She has been slowly making progress towards making it a reality since then, as she would say "make the reality you want".

Their dream for the project is to create high quality furry books which can be consistently printed physically.

Sev the Cat

Co-creater of Miica and Ellka, and long time supporter of the project.

Sev works on the art and sketches for much of Furhire's promotional material, and works with Firbet behind the scenes in a supporting role.

They originally pushed Firbet to make the furhire project a reality, and worked with them on the first volume onf the furhire antholagie series.

Furhire Gradient

  • Animal

Animals do not have anthro characteristics such as exaggerated facial expressions or inner monologues.

  • Feral

Ferals have anthro traits such as human-like sentience and the ability to communicate (with each other or humans), compared to earlier on the gradient.

  • Upright

Uprights stand up on two legs while retaining their animal body structure and size. The retaining of animal body structure is important to differentiate it from digitigrade furries.

  • Digitigrade

Digitigrades stand on two feet and do not retain their original animal body structure or size.

  • Plantigrade

Plantigrades stand on two feet, but have a human body structure, particularly human legs.

  • Beastfolk

Beastfolk are combinations of animal and human body parts. There is typically a distinct line between where the human ends and the animal begins.

  • Kemonomimi

Kemonomimi are characters with small animal traits. The most common traits are ears and tails, however horns, wings, and other auxiliary parts are included.

Image

You will find that there is a massive amount of variation and overlap between Upright, Digitigrade, and Plantigrade furry designs

As with any cultural categorisation this gradient is not an objective way to judge art, but rather a simple way of observing trends which have appeared. Many furry characters may fall into more than one category, or none at all.
